Yoga & Naturopathy

Naturopathy is a drug less system of medicine that uses natural modalities to help the body heal itself. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, aromatherapy, water therapies, acupuncture, exercise, fasting therapy, magneto therapy, chromo therapy and nutritional counseling. The goal of naturopathic medicine is to treat the whole person — that means mind, body, and spirit. It also aims to heal the root causes of an illness — not just stop the symptoms. The major principles of naturopathy are, Do No Harm, Treat the Cause, Treat the Whole Person, Doctor as Teacher, Disease Prevention, Health Promotion and Wellness.

Yoga is a mind and body practice with a 5,000-year history in ancient Indian philosophy. The term “yoga” comes from a Sanskrit word meaning “union.” Yoga combines physical exercises, meditation, and breathing techniques to strengthen the body and mind as a whole. Yoga achieves its best results when it is practiced as a daily discipline, and yoga can be a life-long routine, offering deeper and more challenging changes in body and mind. The basic practices of yoga can increase a person’s strength, flexibility, and sense of well-being almost immediately, but it can take years to perfect and deepen them, which is an appealing and stimulating aspect for many.

Ayurveda :

In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing.” Ayurveda groups five great elements (air, fire, water, earth and space) into three basic types of energy and functional principles or gunas (vatta, pitha and kapha) that are present in everybody. The foundation of Ayurvedic treatment relies upon recognizing when gunas have become excessive or deficient, as this is known to cause doshic imbalance and lead to disease. Ayurveda offers one of the world’s most comprehensive cleansing protocols, known as panchakarma.

Unani :

The Unani System of medicine is based on the Humoral Theory. According to it,there are four humors in the body i.e. Dam (Blood), Balgham (Phlegm), Safra (Yellow Bile), and Sauda (Black bile). Health is a state of body in which all the humors are in equilibrium both in quantity and quality, any alteration in the equilibrium leads to disease. The use of elatives, exhilarants, aphrodisiacs, organ-specific tonics and immunomodulatory drugs, temperament specific drugs, correctives for adverse effects, coctives and purgatives etc. are unique features of Unani System of Medicine. Cosmoceutics, Nutraceutics, Aromatics and corresponding therapies are important parts of treatment in Unani System of Medicine.

Siddha :

The Siddha System of Medicine (Traditional Tamil System of medicine), which has been prevalent in the ancient Tamil land, is the foremost of all other medical systems in the world. The word Siddha has its origin in the Tamil word Siddhi which means “an object to be attained” or “perfection” or “heavenly bliss”. Agastyar or Agasthya, is believed to be the founding father of Siddha Medicine. Eighteen Siddhars are considered to be pillars of Siddha Medicine. Siddha medicine is claimed to revitalize and rejuvenate dysfunctional organs that cause the disease. Kayakarpam, a special combination of medicine and life style, Varmam therapy, Vaasi (Pranayamam) and Muppu the universal Salt are the specialties of Siddha system of medicine.
